Our Impressive Students

On Wednesday, November 14, 2007, 11 students from Fort Crawford Elementary School attended the NKASD board meeting. Prior to the meeting, each teacher chose one student from her class to represent the school. The students who were chosen are students who demonstrate positive behaviors, attend school regularly and punctually and exhibit high academic achievement. The activities in which the students participated are listed below.

Each student shared an example of a positive character trait which he or she portrays. The students also showed a picture that they drew of themselves demonstrating the positive character trait. At Fort Crawford, one character trait is featured every month and discussed over the announcements by our "Voice from the Sky." The character traits are also discussed in the classrooms via various activities with the teachers. All students are encouraged to demonstrate positive character traits and can be rewarded by doing so.

The following is a list of students who participated, the trait they depicted, and their teachers' names:
  • Alexandrea Guy - Responsibility - Mrs. Beebe - Kindergarten
  • Shamar McCoy - Sharing - Mrs. Bell - Kindergarten
  • India D'Argan - Respect - Miss Bowser - 1st grade
  • Elijah O'Neal - Honesty - Ms. Marsico - 1st grade
  • Joseph Guzzo - Caring - Mrs. Gretz - 1st grade
  • Mikayla Lovelace - Sportsmanship - Mrs. Bitar - 2ndgrade
  • Davion Stith - Leadership - Miss Finkel - 2nd grade
  • Makayla Lux - Dependability - Mrs. Trew - 2nd grade
  • Madison Oliver (Our Fort Crawford Crusader) - Compassion - Mrs. Belin - 3rd grade
  • Kylie Sites - Trustworthiness - Mrs. Ervin - 3rd grade
  • Jeremy Grow - Citizenship - Mrs. Grego - 3rd grade
The students presented cards made by Fort Crawford students and a beautiful coffee mug to 6 outgoing school board members who have retired from the school board. The cards were given as a gesture of appreciation for their service and dedication. The students each received an award from the school board members and had the opportunity to shake their hands.

To conclude the event, the students sang the Fort Crawford Alma Mater. They were directed by Ms. Pattison, the Fort Crawford music teacher. The Alma Mater was written by Ms. Maureen Caputo, a retired elementary music teacher.

All in all it was a very enjoyable event for both the adults and the students. Dr. Batterson, the superintendent, said that he was very impressed with the Fort Crawford students.
