The New Kensington-Arnold School District is seeking candidates to serve as a Working Maintenance Director. The Working Maintenance Director may be responsible for the following specific duties in part or in whole as designated by the Superintendent:

  • Establish and maintain a preventative maintenance and safety program throughout the district for proper upkeep, maintenance, and renovation of the buildings.
  • Provide triage of district issues to best schedule maintenance/custodial team members for completion of work
  • Prepare and submit budget requests, process all purchasing, accounting and other business functions through the Business Office, and monitor expenditures of funds.
  • Supervise maintenance and custodial staff, including duty assignments, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Make recommendations concerning hiring, firing, transfer and/or termination of maintenance, custodial and substitute employees to the Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent for the Board of Directors.
  • Develop and supervise a comprehensive, professional development plan for all custodial and maintenance employees.
  • Maintain the school district’s asbestos survey and program as required by law.
  • Establish and supervise work, routine duties, and schedules for maintenance and custodial employees.
  • Supervise the work of all outside craftsmen in general involving minor repairs and construction in the district.
  • Provide subject management as required.
  • Sign and submit time sheets to the District Office for employees.
  • Be responsible for obtaining parts as needed daily for designating which employee will pick up items as needed.
  • Be responsible for consolidating all requests for supplies and equipment and presenting same to District Office.
  • Develop a vacation schedule for employees under his/her supervision.
  • Regular, periodic inspections of all buildings/facilities to check for fire hazards, repair needs, unsafe conditions, equipment, or supply needs.
  • Monitor that quality of workmanship of department is at a high level.
  • Maintain lists of contractors who may be called for services in emergency situations, subject to approval of such contractors by Board of Directors.
  • Assist in the interpretation of contract and benefits provided to employees under his/her supervision.
  • Meet with sales representatives and make recommendations after receiving and/or testing new products to be used in the maintenance/custodial program.
  • Meet with state and local inspectors and insurance adjustors, if needed.
  • Be responsible for management of snow and ice removal from district parking lots, sidewalks, and roadways.
  • Be responsible for disciplinary action for employees under his/her supervision. Any employee conduct warranting suspension and/or dismissal must be reported in writing to the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent for appropriate action.
  • Complete written observations of employees at least once a year through collaborative effort with the building level administrator and provide periodic reports on substitutes.
  • Except in emergencies, submit request for overtime assignments to the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent prior to the overtime being worked.
  • Instruct custodians in such duties as sweeping, mopping, operation of machines as used in custodial assignments, and other such duties necessary for cleaning and upkeep of the schools.
  • Determine/schedule staffing needs to complement the expectations of the comprehensive maintenance plan.
  • Other work as assigned by Supervisor or Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent
  • Attend all buildings and grounds/facilities and general meetings of the board of directors
 

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent travel throughout School District offices, buildings, classrooms, and grounds.
  • Possible sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Heavy lifting possible >30 pounds.
  • Operation of computer keyboard and/or touchscreen technology.
  • Exposure to a wide array of temperatures and weather conditions.

  • Organize office setting to efficiently accomplish priorities and tasks.
  • Use of computer technology including presentation/webpage software, maintenance ticket systems, and the MS Suite.
  • Appropriately handle all confidential information in accordance with District policies and FERPA.
 

Term of Employment:

  • Act 93
  • 12-month position (260 Days)
  • Salary and benefits commensurate with conditions of the Act 93
 

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in engineering, construction management, architecture, business administration, or managerial field required.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in an area noted above.
  • Relevant training/experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • Must demonstrate a commitment to staff development and training.
  • Must have a demonstrated use of effective management principles and practices.
  • Must have strong evidence of fiscal responsibility and budget management skills.
  • Must have distinguished skills in planning projects and managing routine maintenance requirements.
  • Must have an excellent ability to build and sustain positive and collaborative working relationships with a wide range of employee groups.
  • Must possess a commitment to quality assurance and customer service
