This message is to provide notice that all District schools will be moving to the fully remote instructional model effective immediately. Schools will be closed to students tomorrow, Friday, November 20, and all three days next week, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, November 23-25.
This decision has been made in response to the continued rise in local covid-19 numbers, a staff member at HD Berkey testing positive for Covid-19, and a number of students required to quarantine due to positive covid tests, or positive tests among family members. The Health Department has been consulted and I have personally spoken with everyone that is considered an immediate risk. If I did not contact you directly, your child is not considered at risk for infection through their attendance at school.
As a District, we will follow the same protocol as we did the week of November 2-6. Teachers will implement the remote instructional program through Microsoft Teams. Transportation will be provided for students attending Northern Westmoreland CTC and the cafeteria staff will distribute weekend meals tomorrow at Valley JSHS from 8-8:45 and at the Roy Hunt building from 9-9:45.
The health and safety of our entire school community has been considered with this decision. It is understood that it will create some difficulties for families so we hope to return all of our students to school as quickly as is reasonably safe.
Mr. Jon Banko, Acting Superintendent
